Anthurium “Raspberry Plum” F2

*Formerly Known as Anthurium Red Raspberry

Parent Generation: Red Crystallinum from NSE Tropicals x ZaraxMichelle from Doc Block

A prime example of Anthurium Raspberry Plum; Raspberry Plum F1 #6

HOW DID THIS CROSS BEGIN?

MEET THE P GENERATION:

This cross started off in 2021 when I bred the P (parental) generation plants together: NSE Tropicals’ Red Crystallinum with Doc Block’s ZaraxMichelle. Before this, in 2021, no one had crossed these two specific plants before. This was more exciting than a collaboration between Rhianna and Beyonce!

Above: my ATPB Red Crystallinum acquired from NSE Tropicals, and my ATPB ZaraxMichelle acquired from Doc Block.

They produced a beautiful batch of F1 seedlings which I labelled under the hashtag #AnthuriumRedRaspberry on instagram. The seedling batch varied greatly in terms of emergent leaf color, vigor and size of the plant.

About #Anthurium Red Raspberry F1:

Leaf Texure:

  • This hybrid has smooth velvety leaves like the parents.

    Leaf Color:

  • Emerging leaf colors vary from dark purple, bright raspberry magenta, deep red to brownish-red depending on the seedling. I culled many of the brownish-red emergent leaf seedlings as they are not exhibiting the desired trait of a bright raspberry or purple emergent leaf color that I was breeding for.

  • All leaves matured to a dark green color, the shade of which depends on the light it is growing under

Venation:

·      The veins are sparkly silver.

Petiole:

·      The petioles are D-shaped (flat on one side).

THE F1 GENERATION PLANTS SELECTED TO BE MOTHER PLANTS OF THE F2 GENERATION:

From the F1 seedlings I selected the seven most vigorous plants showing purple/ plum emergents as that was my overall breeding goal. I grew them out to full maturity. They became known as Anthurium Red Raspberry #1 - #7 at the time. As of August 2025 the name has been changed to Anthurium Raspberry Plum.

(#4 is not shown because I decided to cull it after a year due to lack of vigor. I was experimenting with keeping one petite sized mother plant in an effort to reduce plant size in subsequent breeding batches, but it ended up being a weaker plant than the others and i don’t have time for that nonsense in my breeding program)!

THE F2 GENERATION IS BORN!

After two years of growing out and breeding the F1 mother plants together, the Anthurium Raspberry Plum F2 babies arrived in the summer of 2025. They are the improved, second-generation cross of Anthurium Raspberry Plum F1 (FKA Red Raspberry). The F2 generation maintains the same vigor as the original but more consistently exhibits the highly desirable bold purple/plum emergent leaves. This consistency is due to all seven F1 mother plants being selected specifically for their purple/plum/magenta emergent coloration.
